Hello! My name is Liz and I am the artist, creator and designer behind Cherished Crochet Dolls -  dolls that you will cherish for years to come.

I started crocheting in 2016, I wanted to learn a new skill. I tried knitting 6 years prior, but couldn’t quite grasp the concept of working the stitches on and off two needles.

A colleague taught me the basic crochet chain and US single crochet stitch (aka as the UK double crochet stitch). At this time I only knew how to complete rows and rows of one stitch. I moved onto blankets, baby hats and baby cardigans.

Then in 2018 I wanted to create a birthday present for my niece, something that was special, unique and just for her, no one else would have the same thing….. a DOLL! that looked like and represented her. I created ‘curly girl’, she stood 20 inches tall and I loved her and so did my niece, who will now receive a new doll every year for her birthday until she says no more aunty.

After posting her picture on my personal Instagram page, I was being contacted by friends and family who saw what I had done and they wanted one too. I created my next two dolls, the Jamaican and Nigerian couple for a friend who, like me, only had boys at the time (she now has a baby girl) wanted something girly at home. Then my confidence began to grow, this was more than crocheting a doll with brown yarn, this is art, creating dolls representing our natural hairstyles and our cultures.

During the global pandemic in 2020, I decided to officially launch Cherished Crochet Dolls.

No more hiding what I had to offer to help bridge the gap in the lack of dolls that represent black and brown boys and girls, young and old alike.

I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I do and staying connected with me.
